Beauty and the Beast
This website has been created for my third year subject ‘History of Children’s Literature’ during my Bachelor of education degree. I have chosen Beauty and the Beast as my topic because I had watched the modern film version ‘Beastly’ as part of an earlier assessment task and wanted to continue on with the knowledge of the different adaptations such as retellings or revisions that have been made of this traditional fairy tale over time and in different cultures.
The purpose for this website is to look at different adaptations of the traditional fairy tale story ‘Beauty and the Beast’ from a variety of aspects. The aspects covered in this site include cross cultural adaptations or like stories from places around the world including Korea and Portugal as well as Nigeria. I also look at character depictions looking into the differing ways Beauty or Beast is potrayed throughout many versions of the story; short annotations of websites and articles aswell as literary versions of the story from differing formats such as film, text and comics. I have also made comparisons of the different adaptations for adults and children and reasoning behinds the way they are made in regards to their possible intentions or purposes.
Content on this site is used for academic purposes only and references are included at the end of each page and a full reference list is provided in the last page of the site intitled 'references'.
